There are several sons named John that are listed for John Griest (1716-1780) and Susannah Pyle in various family trees in Ancestry.com.  The US Quaker Meeting Record 1681-1933 information (PA, Adams, Menallen Monthly Meeting, 1785-1884, image of record also is shown in Gallery) is shown by “Q:” and is considered the most authoritative record.  They appear to fall into four groups that could represent four different sons named John.  The four groups are as shown:

1.      Birth: 19 Aug 1742 in York, York, PA; death: 1 Aug 1743 in York, York, PA

2.      Birth: 19 Jun 1742 in Bethel, PA; death: 17 Jun 1743 in Bethel, Lancaster, PA

3.      Q: birth = 19 Jun1742; death = Jun 1743

4.      Birth: 01 Nov 1744 in York, PA; death: 25 Nov 1744 in York, PA

5.      Birth: 25 Aug 1744 in Bethel, Lancaster, PA; death: Sep 1744 in Bethel, Lancaster PA or 25 Nov 1744 in York, Pa

6.      Q: birth = 25 Aug 1744; death = Sep 1744

7.      Birth: 08 Dec 1749 in Warrington, York, PA, with other family trees listing the following birthdates w/o birthplace: 19 Dec 1749, 19 Feb 1750, and 8 Oct 1749; death: 1804, probably in Adams, PA. This year of is cited in all the family trees for “this John”.  This John married Susannah Cox.

8.      Q: birth 8 Oct 1749

9.      Birth: 10 Oct 1767 in York, PA; death: 22 Feb 1820 with the place of death usually not listed, but one family tree listed Huntington, Adams, PA.

10.  Q: no record

It appears, from the Quaker record, that there were three sons named John, but not a fourth son named John. Only one survived childhood.
